Holiday Traditions Mean More To Home And Family

All across America home and family repeat their holiday traditions. Many homes observe practices that no other family shares. Lots of traditions are celebrated in a majority of homes across the country.

Colored house lights should go up after Thanksgiving. This is the season of shopping, football bowl games, and feasting. Lots of turkey and side dishes plus desserts galore. Near every seat there is some kind of nut or candies. Stock up because you do not want to have to make a store run unless it’s halftime.

While our wives were caught up in the shopping spree I was ordering online. I put a digital book reader, a cuisinart food processor, a few baby safety monitors< and other great stuff in my online cart. I did a secure checkout and moved to the next online site offering discounts and free shipping. All this plus my college game and appetizers.

We always get the neighbors together for some touch football. We try to get enough exercise to really enjoy my Aunt Hazel’s dessert collection. The kids love it when their parents join them in tubing down the hill outside the house. We all look forward to snowball fights and making snow angels.

Every room is filled with food, laughter, and holiday songs throughout the season. A stream of friends and family, the sound of the player piano getting a workout, and lots of seasonal cheer on the rocks completes the scene. The children are being exposed to traditions that they will repeat with their kids one day. Hopefully, I will be at their house watching from a comfortable chair.

Lots of families will observe a midnight church service on Christmas Eve. Some families open all their gifts on Christmas Eve. I always wondered if Santa Claus came one day early to those homes. Most of us may open just one gift the night before but save everything else for Christmas day. Tradition also means we often try to get a preview of our present prior to the big day.

Who will play Santa Claus and dole out the gifts? What will the silliest present be and who gets it? Christmas music playing or do we want the parade on in the background. Pictures will be taken, hearts will capture moments, and new memories will be made thus securing our traditions. Our children will grow up and take our place filling stockings late at night, eating cookies, and drinking Santa’s milk. All the while picturing past Christmas celebrations and reliving memories.
